AN OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE?
When your Realtor calls to say there is an offer on your home, you are thrilled. Then when the Realtor describes the price of the offer, your excitement deflates into disappointment. This is the time for you to remain calm, and discuss with your Realtor whether a counter-offer would be appropriate. The negotiations of a home purchase usually begin with the buyer’s ideal terms and a counter-offer based on the seller’s ideal terms.
A good real estate agent will look beyond the price when evaluating an offer. If the buyer’s financial qualifications are shaky or the offer has any questionable terms or conditions, your Realtor should be there to explain any risk to you and to address these items in your counter-offer. Your agent’s job is not to make a decision for you, but to make certain that you fully understand the offer. Your Realtor will support you to take the next step in the negotiation process.
